Garden Tour: Dawes Arboretum

roses at Dawes Arboretum

Join us on April 12 at 2PM as Columbus Rose Club member Tyler Wilson, gardener at The Dawes Arboretum, is opening a window into his work with the Arboretum’s roses and sharing his perspective on caring for them within one of Ohio’s most treasured public landscapes.

Established in 1929 by Beman and Bertie Dawes, The Dawes Arboretum was founded with a vision of conservation, education, and the cultivation of hardy trees and landscape plants suited to Ohio’s climate. Situated on the rolling hills of the former Brumback farm in Licking Township, the Arboretum continues to serve as a living collection and place of learning for visitors across the state.

Tyler will offer insight into how roses are maintained and stewarded in a public garden setting — including approaches to resilient plantings, seasonal care, and what differs from (or aligns with) home rose growing.

Whether you grow roses in your backyard or simply appreciate well-tended landscapes, this program offers practical knowledge and a deeper appreciation for the work behind a very beautiful public garden.

📍 Meeting Location: Zand Building
We will meet at the Zand outdoor classroom (indoors if raining). It’s a 3–5 minute walk to the roses and offers easier parking.
